TripAdvisor Reviews

"Very quiet, peaceful location surrounded by open pasture and rolling hills. Breakfasts were delicious and we appreciated the gracious service of Genelle and AJ. The Brenner Suite was very clean and comfortable. It's a short drive into Roseburg, and we enjoyed a great day of wine tasting in the Umpqua Valley."

"I seldom write reviews for anything, but our stay at the CHBH is worth writing about. The occasion was our 30th Wedding Anniversary, so everything had to be perfect. We arrived in the early evening to a warm welcome from the owners, Sherry and Jay (such great people!) who helped us settle into our suite and made sure that we had everything we needed to be comfortable...

"My husband and I stayed here in August for 2 nights while visiting Crater Lake. Our host and hostess could not have been nicer. The grounds are beautiful and deer visit the fields in the evening. Our fridge was so well stocked for breakfast we could hardly eat everything! Fresh eggs, fruit, cheese, homemade scones and muffins, granola. And a bottle of wine. The rooms were extremely clean and well appointed. If you are ever in the area make sure you reserve this B&B..."

"We've traveled around the world over the last 40 years and stayed at many bed and breakfasts, Inns, and resorts. This is by far the best place we've ever stayed at. Sherry is a spectacular hostess. We were treated to fresh picked tomatoes from the garden. Strawberries, blueberries, and terrific local chocolates. We were gifted a fabulous bottle of wine from the local Abacela winery, a blend of Tempranillo and other varietals. There was a local beer on tap available in the barn, too! We played bocce on one of their two courts. Though we had never played before, Sherry kindly explained the rules to us. The bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom were beautiful. The attention to details were very well thought out and made for an extremely comfortable stay"

We invite you to delve into the history of the home and its surroundings. You'll discover that from the beginning, C.H. Bailey House was destined to welcome guests.

C.H. Bailey house was built in 1909 in the traditional box style. In January 1910, Dr. and Mrs. Bailey, “opened their home with a reception to about 70 of their friends and neighbors. Dancing and other forms of amusement entertained guests until 12:00 am when a bounteous supper was served.”

painting of C. H. Bailey House by artist Paul Zeger

The C.H. Bailey House was constructed in the transitional box style. It was one of the few houses in this style in Douglas County with a two-story veranda and gable roof.

In 1909, Dr. Bailey began farming their acreage. The Bailey farm comprised 50 acres all in fruit bearing orchards. Thirty acres were dedicated to apples: Newtowns, Delicious, Spitzenberg, Gravenstein and Winter Bananas. Twenty acres were in prunes, peaches and cherries. The Baileys sold their apples under their own label, ConleyCott Orchards, locally and at coastal areas in Oregon.
