Things to do and see in the land of the Umpqua

Wine Tasting

The Umpqua Valley has over 30 tasting rooms and award winning wines with over 40 varietals. The wineries also host events throughout the year and are great places to picnic, shop, play trivia, or simply enjoy the views. Feel free to call/email us to inquire as to current events taking place at the wineries.

Beer Tasting

Following a long tradition of hop growing in the Umpqua Valley, we have many local breweries to enjoy.  Backside Brewing Company, Old 99 Brewing Company, Draper Draft House, and North Forty Beer Company, to name a few.

Waterfalls

We have over 24 waterfalls in the Umpqua National Forest Roseburg District: Beautiful drives and (most often easy) gorgeous hikes that lead you to majestic falls. Waterfalls such as Susan Creek Falls, Toketee Falls, and Watson Falls will delight your senses, as will many more.

Wildlife Safari

Home to hundreds of animals that walk freely in a 600 acre park. Enjoy a drive through the park or an encounter with a resident bear, lion, elephant or giraffe, to name a few.

Umpqua River

Enjoy whitewater rafting, fly and spinning fishing, swimming holes, waterfalls, hiking and majestic views

North Umpqua Trail

Mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, and sightseeing on the famous 79-mile trail that runs along the picturesque Umpqua River.

Museums

Douglas County Museum of History and Natural History: Oregon’s largest natural history collection tells the ancient and contemporary stories of the Umpqua River Valley, and the historical artifact collection is one of the most extensive in the state illustrating area history. In addition, the Museum holds Oregon’s second largest historic photograph collection with more than 24,000 images going back as early as the mid-19th century.

Umpqua River Lighthouse: Tours of the lighthouse are given daily year-round, 10 am to 5 pm, and inside the museum you’ll find hundreds of documents, photographs, and artifacts that illustrate the story of the Umpqua River Lighthouse from its early existence as a Lifesaving Station to the U.S. Coast Guard station that sits on the same site today

Winchester Dam Fish Ladder

On the National Registry of Historical Places, you can be one with the fish – or at least feel like it by visiting. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife created viewing windows where visitors can observe species present at different times of the year including Steelhead, Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Trout, Lamprey, Northern Pike, minnow and suckers on the North Umpqua River.

Crater Lake

Formed 7,700 years ago. Spend a day in America’s deepest lake and definitely one of the most picturesque. Lots of scenic views, hiking trails and a historic lodge.

The Umpqua Valley Arts Center and Gallery

Located in the restored Old Soldier’s Home, this elegant historical building houses six art gallery spaces, a workshop studio, a beautifully stocked gift gallery, a full-sized pottery studio, and an outdoor stage. We have several golf courses in the area to enjoy, including Roseburg Country Club, Oak Hills Golf Club, Cougar Canyon Golf Course, and only an hour away, Bandon Dunes Golf. Disc golf is available at several locations including Stewart Park, Whistler’s Park, and Millsite RV Park in Myrtle Creek.
